Product Detail

A self-adhesive label is the only packaging component that stays on the product after everything else is thrown away. It has to survive the application line, the fill, the shelf and the customer's bathroom cabinet. Material and adhesive choice therefore matter more than print quality - a beautiful label on the wrong adhesive peels at the edge within a week.

Face stock first

Coated paper is the default for indoor retail: it prints well, takes foil and costs least, but cockles in a wet environment. Synthetic paper and PP look like paper and resist water and tearing, which makes them the workhorse for household and chilled goods. PE conforms to squeezable tubes; PET is the stiffest and clearest for the no-label look on clear containers. Kraft and textured stocks carry an uncoated, artisanal appearance but absorb ink and stain more readily.

Adhesive is where labels fail

Standard permanent acrylic suits smooth, room-temperature surfaces. It does not suit low-surface-energy plastics such as HDPE and PP, where the edges lift within days unless a high-tack grade is used. Cold-chain products need a freezer-grade adhesive applied cold: a standard adhesive applied warm will detach in the fridge, not in transit. Removable and ultra-removable grades exist for promotional and reusable applications, and they are not interchangeable with permanent.

Roll, sheet or single-cut

Rolls are for automatic applicators and are the only practical format above a few thousand pieces; core size, unwind direction and gap must match the machine. Sheets suit hand application at low volume. Single-cut pieces are for hand application where a sheet is awkward. Ordering the wrong unwind direction is the most common reason a first machine run is reprinted.

Print and finishing

Flexo is economical at volume and handles spot colours and white underprint. Digital suits short runs and variable data and is the route that ships in 48 hours. Hot foil gives genuine metallic reflection; laser silver breaks it into diffraction patterns; spot UV raises gloss relief against matte. On clear film, a white underprint layer is what makes the design readable.

Artwork checks

Vector artwork at 1:1 with 2 mm bleed, text outlined. Minimum positive type is around 4 pt on coated stock and 5 pt on uncoated, because uncoated absorbs ink and closes up small type. Reversed-out text below 6 pt fills in on flexo. Barcodes need quiet zones and a verified symbol size or they fail at the till.

Minimum order and lead time

Self-adhesive labels start at 100 pieces. Sampling is 1–3 pieces and takes 2–3 working days; bulk production runs 7–15 working days after approval. Digital short runs can ship in 48 hours.

Send the substrate, the storage temperature, the application method and the quantity. That is enough to recommend two or three constructions with a price for each.
