Pencil Boxes
Product Detail
A pencil box is a long, shallow carton that has to stay rigid along its length. That proportion is what makes it different from a standard folding carton: a box 200 mm long and 25 mm deep bows in the middle unless the board or the structure carries the span. Handle, window and insert all change how it behaves.
Board and structure for a long box
Folding cartons for stationery are usually 300–350 gsm. Past roughly 200 mm in length, a single-wall carton starts to flex; the usual fixes are a slightly heavier board, a tuck-and-lock end rather than a simple tuck, or a rigid box construction. A rigid pencil box costs more but holds its shape permanently, which matters for gift and education sets.
Window and slide formats
A window shows the contents, which sells a set better than a photograph. A PET window is clear and crack-resistant; a die-cut aperture costs less and avoids plastic. A slide or drawer format is common for pencil sets because the box can be reopened for storage without the lid deforming - the same reason it survives a school year.
Insert and internal layout
A pencil set needs the pieces held in order. A folded paper or moulded pulp insert assigns each item a slot; without one, the contents shift and the tips mark the box interior. The insert also lets a long box use a thinner board, because the insert carries part of the span.
Print and finish
Matte lamination resists scuffs and fingerprints, which suits a product that gets handled before and after purchase. Gloss lifts the colour of a colourful set but shows marks. For gift-oriented pencil boxes, a single foil element on the lid does more for perceived value than full-coverage graphics.
Artwork and dieline
Long boxes exaggerate alignment errors: a graphic that is 1 mm off-centre on a square box is obvious on a 200 mm panel. Artwork is placed on the dieline, and folds are treated as constraints - heavy ink across a crease cracks on uncoated stock.
Minimum order and lead time
Pencil boxes start at 100 pieces. Sampling is 1–3 pieces and takes 2–3 working days; bulk production runs 7–15 working days after approval. Digital printing on short runs can ship in 48 hours.
Send the contents list with dimensions, the finished box size and the quantity. Insert layout is confirmed on a physical sample.
